Versuchsanordnung zum Thema "Zugreisen mit Grenzüberquerung"
Im Kunstzug Dresden – Wroclaw 25.-28. August 2016

Ausstellungsdauer: 10.9.2016 - 24.9.2016

"Houla Oups", bar project 2012, room installation, light collage, pub, group show

The houla oups was a bar in the 11th arrondissement at Paris. I knew this nightbar for some years especially from my study term at Paris and think that it was a very special “bar du quartier”  In contrast to many other bars around it was neither touristic nor chic or expensive. The walls and windows were full of drawings, posters and traces from nightlife left by customers, artists and comicpeople. Often there have been concerts, parties or exhibitions and sometimes still drinks even after the Paris closing time at 2am. The October exhibition (2012) at the Dresden gallery in Stauffenbergallee 11 showed a version of the Houla Oups as a room installation. The project was asking if it is possible to transport the idea of a living place like the Houla Oups to another town and country. Can this “fake-bar” made by image fragments and imagination collect new traces at Dresden and create an atmosphere comparable to the real one? The project tried to find out how far a direct artistic exchange can go between the distance from Dresden to Paris. Also it was a very relaxed place to show art in a different context than white cube gallery atmosphere.

The Dresden version of the Houla Oups was an installation with the function of a real bar and was open only during 31 october nights. It was a photo documentary reconstruction in fragments with original elements. Diascope projections in real size were projected as an overlapping lightcollage on to the white walls of the Dresden gallery rooms and on to the surface of a reconstructed bar counter with the measures of the Paris original. It has been a group exhibition and an experiment with many great invited artists, bands and DJ´s.

All these people, artists, musicians, customers, drinkers and dancers together with the barman from Paris who came for visit, gave life to the new bar.

On this blog you can find information about the bar project from october 2012: www.11te.wordpress.com

Special thanks to all the supporters and to Guillaume and Guillaume!!
Later in 2013 the Houla Oups at Paris has been sold.

In 2015 I´m planning to travel with the projections of this project and collect new impressions and photos at other special bars in different European cities.
